Raritan Riverfront Restoration, East Brunswick, NJ
The river stabilization project is located on the bank of the Raritan River. This project was extremely complex from a regulatory perspective: permits and approvals from USACE, NJDEP, Tidelands Council, Soil Erosion and Sediment Control are among those that were required. The bank of the river located just downstream of the NJ Turnpike has been subjected to erosion and degradation for many years.
Edgeboro International undertook the remediation efforts to preserve and improve the environmental quality of this area by stabilizing the river bank. The stabilization design was developed by Sadat Associates Inc. and included the excavation of some of the deposited material in order to create a 3:1 slope for the 12-18” rip rap placement. Portions of the site preparation work included the placement of geo-textiles and sand to support the rip rap. The installation of the rip rap was completed in early 2008. Approximately 3,000 LF of river bank was stabilized as part of this project. After the environmental remediation work was finished, the area was landscaped to restore its natural habitat. Only native trees, shrubs and grasses were selected for the landscaping project.
